Two Post-Doctoral Research Fellow positions opening

Dr. Jiong Ma’s lab at the School of Environment and Energy, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, is seeking exceptional candidates for two post-doctoral research fellow positions, one in Bioinformatics, and the other in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Microbiology. Requirements are as follows:
·Ph.D. from a top graduate program in a relevant field (see above for appropriate areas of study). Proven track record in publications and academic excellence; English proficiency particularly in scientific writing is a must; Self-motivated, ambitious scientists who aim to change the world by doing cutting-edge research.
·For the Bioinformatics opening: Extensive experiences with next-generation sequencing projects and genomics, abilities to manage and mine large data sets and database tools, including short sequence assembly, RNAseq, metabolic pathway and regulatory network analysis, GWAS, etc. This fellow will work on projects in metagenomics, RNAseq and provide routine bioinformatics help to other projects in the lab.
·For the Molecular Bio opening: Extensive experiences with wet-bench research; core skills in molecular biology, microbiology and biochemistry including DNA, RNA and protein analyses, library-based experiments e.g. high-throughput screening. Experiences with plant transformation and biofuels are a plus but not required. This fellow will work on a bioenergy project using an aquatic plant system.
·As usual, this is a two-year appointment and could be extended if necessary. Can start in April, July or October of 2012.
We offer an excellent compensation package including the following:
·Standard national level post-doctoral salary package, plus bonuses provided by the Shenzhen government (80,000 yuan upon signing and 80,000 yuan upon satisfactory fulfillment of all requirements in two years);

·Other intangible benefits include opportunities to work in our US collaborators’ labs as short-term (3-6 months) visiting scholars, as necessary.

About the lab:

Dr. Jiong Ma graduated from Peking University and subsequently obtained a M.S. from Rutgers University and Ph.D. from Stanford University, all in biological sciences and bioinformatics. After 15 years studying and working in the US, he returned in 2009 to Peking University Shenzhen as a “Pengcheng Scholar” Associate Professor and has since received research grants in a total of about 3 million RMB. Research interests of the group include microbial metagenomics of extreme environments and habitats, and development of novel aquatic systems for waste water treatment and bioenergy applications. We have established collaborations with top research groups in both China and the US, and offer our students and fellows with excellent opportunities for further studies and training in the US down the road.
