Peking University School of Transnational Law (“STL”) is unique in China and unique in the world, offering an American-style J.D. degree completely in English alongside a Chinese J.M. degree as well as an LL.M. degree taught in English. These degree programs are taught by a distinguished multinational faculty and are rich in courses emphasizing transnational law and practice, Chinese law and legal traditions, and other advanced courses designed to equip STL graduates of all nationalities for leadership in the 21st century.

STL is located in University Town, Nanshan District, in Shenzhen, in the Pearl River Delta of Southeastern China. Hong Kong is immediately adjacent to Shenzhen on the South. Shenzhen is a modern, metropolitan city of over 15 million people and one of the most livable large cities in China. The Pearl River Delta consists of over 50 million people, including the cities of Guangzhou, Macau, and Hong Kong, and represents one of the most vibrant economic regions in the world.
The Opportunity
We are seeking exceptionally qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Director, Law Library and, if qualified, Associate Dean for Information Services of the School of Transnational Law. Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean/Director is a member of the senior management team at the School of Transnational Law. The Associate Dean/Director is responsible for the administration and management of the library, including strategic planning, budgeting, human resources, assessment, developing the collections, supporting the research mission of faculty and students, developing legal research training programs and teaching legal research, supporting the incorporation of educational technology into law library teaching and services, management of library space, coordination with the University Town Library, part of the Shenzhen municipal library system, and developing partner relationships with research libraries in Asia and around the world.
The Associate Dean should have an entrepreneurial and flexible spirit as STL continues to develop its programs and faculty.
The Associate Dean/Director will hold a law faculty appointment with rank and security of position as appropriate.
Qualifications
Applicants preferably should hold both a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and an M.L.S. or have equivalent degrees or experience. Proficiency in English and Mandarin is strongly desired.
Strong candidates will have:
Significant budget and human resources management experience;
5 or more years of experience in administration of a law library that supports a highly motivated student body and research oriented/scholarly faculty;
Excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills;
Experience developing legal research programs and classroom teaching experience;
Knowledge of the latest trends in library management and technology and the ability to translate those trends into a coherent long-term strategic plan for the library;
Experience in developing collaborative partnerships with other libraries; and
Experience working in an international environment.
Salary and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. A benefits package comparable to that provided to law faculty at a North American law school is available.
