Dear Colleagues, Students and Academic Friends,
The European Law Journal and Peking University School of Transnational Law (PKUSTL), Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, are pleased to invite proposals for consideration for presentation at the 9th International Workshop for Young Scholars (WISH) / Rencontre international des jeunes chercheurs (RIJC). The topic is ‘The Future of Transnational Law: The EU, USA, China, and the BRICS’. The 9th WISH will be held in the dynamic and beautiful city of Shenzhen in south CHINA from Thursday 29 November (registration and opening reception) through Saturday 1 December 2012.
This call for proposals invites young scholars from universities and research institutions throughout the world to contribute to and to advance current thinking about the future of transnational law. It encourages researchers from diverse national backgrounds and various academic disciplines to pool their knowledge in common discussion and analysis in order to explore both theoretical and policy-relevant issues concerning transnational law.
The European Union, the United States, China, and the BRICS serve as primary anchors for the 9th WISH. Proposals are welcome however from any young researchers who wish to contribute to our reflection on the role of other countries in the creation, development, use and future of transnational law. The principal themes for discussion are (a) Globalization, regionalism and transnational law, (b) Creating and managing transnational legal relations, (c) Redefining transnational law, reconciling social priorities: gender, markets, environment, food safety, public health, education, and (d) Transnational law and domestic institutions and processes: a two-way street.
The guidelines for submission of proposals are:
· Proposals may be submitted by doctoral candidates (or equivalent) who have not yet submitted their thesis or who have been awarded their doctorate in the 12 months prior to 29 November 2012. Proposals (or papers) co-authored with more experienced academics will not be considered.
· Proposals should be submitted in electronic form by email to wishstl@gmail.com by 15 March 2012 at the latest. All proposals will be acknowledged. Proposals submitted in paper form cannot be accepted.
· Proposals may be submitted in either English or French. Only original papers are eligible for WISH participation. Proposals and, after selection, draft manuscripts may not be submitted to other journals or means of publication in parallel.
· Each proposal must contain the following information:
o A cover sheet with the title of the proposed presentation, the name of the proposer (first name, family name), the proposer’s institution, full postal address, email, telephone and if possible fax. Proposals lacking this information will not be considered.
o A summary of 400-500 words of the proposed paper to be presented at the 9th WISH
o Proof from the university that the proposer is currently a doctoral candidate or that the proposer has been awarded the doctorate in the 12 months preceding 29 November 2012.
o Proposals must be submitted in Word or RFT form.
After all proposals have been received, 18 proposals will be selected for development of a full paper to be presented at the 9th WISH. An additional 6 candidates will be invited to serve as commentators on the papers. Pending application for sufficient funding, the 9th WISH expects to be able to cover travel and accommodation of paper-givers and commentators.

Submission of proposals: 15 April 2012
Acknowledgment of receipt: by 1 May 2012
Notifications of acceptance: 1 June 2012
Submission of completed paper: 15 September 2012
